Ganesh Himal Trek

Ganesh Himal region is located in Dhading district, to the north-west of Kathmandu. Trekking in the region is an off-the-beaten trail affair and is one of the newly introduced trekking routes in Nepal.

Ganesh Himal Trek is a journey towards the foothill of Ganesh Himal ranges which is a cluster of nearly 20 peaks, flanking west of Manaslu Himal. The highest points of the trek are Shingla pass (4200m) and Pansang La pass (4100m). The trail offers spectacular views of Ganesh I (7406m), Langtang (7300m), Annapurna (8091m), Fishtail (6990m), Manaslu (8163m), Lamjung (6800m), Ganesh II, Ganesh III, Ganesh IV, Boudha Himal, and Hiunchuli.

The Ganesh Himal region is rich in flora with such varieties as orchids, berries, ferns and Jasmine, oak, blue pine and rhododendron. There are 526 species of plants, 300 spices of birds and many attractive wild animals. The region is also famous for the precious natural rocks such as rubies and rare herbal and medicinal plants. One of the major highlights of this trek is the natural exploration of twin waterfall Ganga Jamuna. Ganga Jamuna is regarded as a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists. The famous Tripura Sundari temple at Salyankot hosts an annual fair in November, three days before the full moon, when people from far and wide make a pilgrimage. It is believed that this holy stone preserves the divine power as water originates from there.

During the trek you will have the opportunity to witness a wealth of Nepali culture and traditions of both Buddhist and Hindus. The native people of this area are Gurungs, Tamangs, Magars, Newars and Brahmins. Home stay will provide an experience to observer their lifestyles, cultures, food, and customs.

Ganesh Himal trekking can be arranged both on home stay and full board camping basis. Best season for Ganesh Himal trek is February to May and August to December to see the mountains and to see the magnificent red Rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower. However, trekking is feasible throughout the year.
