Overview

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is a short and popular but rewarding trip to the Annapurna region. This trek is popular among trekkers who have limited time in Nepal and do not have previous history of trekking. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek route leads you on an enchanting journey through wide open valleys, sparkling waterfalls and dense forests.

The Poon Hill at an altitude of (3120m) is famous for a breathtaking panorama of the Himalayan ranges it offers such as Mount Dhaulagiri 8167m, Annapurna I 8091m, Machhapuchhre 6998m, Nilgiri 7041m, Annapurna South 7219m, Annapurna II 7939m, Annapurna III 7555m, Annapurna IV 7525m, and Lamjung Himal 6988m. It is one of the most spectacular mountain spots where you can enjoy fabulous sunrise and sunset over the Himalaya.

The gorgeous landscapes, green vegetation, the rhododendron forest, different flora and fauna of this region provide you with the lifetime memory. Along with the natural scenery, trekkers get the opportunity to explore the lifestyle and culture of the different ethnic groups like Gurung, Magar, and Thakali.

 

Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport

On your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be greeted with flower garlands/Khadas. Our representative will then take you to your hotel. If time prevails, you will visit office for paperwork.

Stay overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2 : Trip preparation and city tour of Kathmandu or Patan and Bhaktapur.

Today, you will visit popular world heritage monuments in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Swoyambhunath, and Pashupatinath. Alternatively, you can choose Bhakatapur and Patan sightseeing.  By late afternoon you will drive back to your hotel.

Day 3 : Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m.) takes about seven hours.

After early morning breakfast, you will be picked up from the hotel and taken to the tourist bus station. Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m.) takes about seven hours. The drive will take most of our morning time, leaving much of the afternoon to get a warm glimpse of Pokhara Valley and its beauty. If you choose to fly, you can reach Pokhara in 25 minutes. There are several flights from morning to afternoon available from Kathmandu to Pokhara.

Pokhara is the tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, Buddhist monasteries and Hindu temples along with the magnificent views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and many other mountain peaks.

Day 4 : Drive from Pokhara (914 m.) to Nayapul (1050m.) takes approximately one and half hours.

After early morning breakfast, drive from Pokhara (914 m.) to Nayapul (1050m.) takes approximately one and half hours. Now you begin your trek from Nayapul (1050m.) to Tirkhedhunga (1577 m.) via Birethanti (1065m.) which takes about four and half hours.

Day 5 : Trek from Tirkhedhunga to Ghorepani (2675 m.) takes about six hours.

To begin your trek, you ascend steeply for the early 2 hours and then gently pass through Ulleri (2070m.) and Banthanti, both Magar villages. On the way you can view the Machhapuchhare or Fish Tail (6997m.), Hiunchuli (6441m.) and Annapurna (7219m) south.

Poon Hill is a popular viewpoint to see sunrise/sunset and majestic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m.), Tukuche Peak (6920m.), Nilgiri (6940m.), Varaha Shikhar (7847m.), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m.), Annapurna South (7219m.), Annapurna III (7855m.), Machhapuchhare (6993m.), Annapurna IV (7525m.), Annapurna II (7937m.), and Lamjung Himal (6931m.).

After spending sometime in Poon Hill, hike back to Ghorepani for breakfast and then continue trekking towards Tadapani (2630m) which takes about four and half hours. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 7 : Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (2950m) takes about 3 hours.

It is a very easy trek descending gently all the way through rhododendron and oak forests. This is one of the popular destinations for the bird lovers. Ghandruk is a big Gurung village offering good views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna (7455m.), Annapurna III (7755m.) and Fishtail.

Day 8 : Trek from Ghandruk (1950m.) to Pothana (1990m.) takes about six hours.

The early part of your trek is a steep descent following the stone staircase to Kimbu, which is also known as Bee Hive area. Kimbu is located at the elevation of 1200 meters on the bank of Modi Khola. Now, your trail steeply ascends following the stone staircase up to Landruk, which is a beautiful Gurung village. The trail follows a leveled path for two hours and then ascends steeply for an hour to Deurali (2150m.) passing through Tolkha village (1850m.). From this point you can see the panoramic view of Dhaulagiri I (8167m.), Annapurna South (7219m.), Hiunchuli (6441m.), Fishtail (6997m.), Annapurna III (7755m.), Annapurna IV (7525m.), Annapurna II (7937m.) and Lamjung Himal (6930m.). Now, the rest of the trail descends gently down to Pothana village (1900m.).

Day 9 : Trek from Pothana to Dhampus Phedi (1113m.) takes about four hours.

Trek from Pothana to Dhampus Phedi (1113m.) takes about four hours.

The trail descends gradually for at least an hour and follows leveled path for two hours and then steeply descends to Dhampus Phedi passing through Dhampus village, paddy fields and forest protected by local community. Upon your arrival at Dhampus Phedi, you will drive back to Pokhara that takes about 1 hr.

Day 10 : Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu that takes about seven hours.

After breakfast early morning, drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu that takes about seven hours. En route, you will enjoy the mountain views, green sceneries, rice terrace fields, vegetable fields and people being engaged in their daily life activities. If you choose to fly back to Kathmandu, it takes about 25 minutes. There are several flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara from morning to afternoon.

As per your flight schedule, our airport representative will transfer from your hotel to the airport for your final departure.
