Kanchenjunga South Base Camp trek is a 17 days long adventure trip to the Eastern Himalayas. Kanchenjunga region is a less visited trekking destination by tourists despite its unique features and wonderful scenery. Kanchenjunga South Base Camp journey starts at a low elevated city called Taplejung. The path then passes mainly through rhododendron, oak, and chestnut forest. Besides South Base Camp, Mirgin La (4480 m) and Sele La (4290 m) passes allow you to capture breathtaking views of splendid Himalayan peaks.
Kanchenjunga is the world’s third tallest peak and second highest peak in Nepal that stood at 8586 meters above sea level. The whole Kanchenjunga region is rich in biodiversity, and thus the government of Nepal has demarcated the region as Kanchenjunga Conservation Area with the purpose of conserving wild floras and faunas.
The 17 days Kanchenjunga South Base Camp trek itinerary is designed in a clockwise direction and seems suitable to those who have no more than 2 weeks of holidays. On your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be greeted with flower garlands/Khadas. Our representative will then take you to your hotel. If time prevails, you will visit office for paperwork.

Trip preparation and city tour of Kathmandu or Patan and Bhaktapur.
Today, you will visit popular world heritage monuments in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Swoyambhunath, and Pashupatinath. Alternatively, you can also choose Bhakatapur and Patan sightseeing. By late afternoon, you will drive back to your hotel.

After early-morning breakfast, our guide will pick you up from the hotel and drive to the domestic airport terminal. Receive your boarding pass and fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and drive to Taplejung (1820m).

Trek from Taplejung (1820m.) to Sinwa (980 m) takes approximately 6 hours.

Trek from Sinwa to Lelep (1750 zm) or Tamewa takes approximately seven hours. Crossing a suspension bridge over Tamur River you follow quite a flat route. Your hike continues along the bank of Tamur Koshi through paddy fields and bee hives. You frequently cross through small jungles of cardamom plants and other natural vegetation. You can see some small village stretching at a far distance.

Trek from Lelep to Amjilosa (2308m.) takes about five hours. The first one and half-hour you trek through normally flat land. Then your trail is a steep ascent up to Amjilasa. Amjilassa is a small village with a few houses and yak herds with local shops where you find minimal supplies

Trek from Amjilosa to Gyable (2730 m) takes about seven hours. The trail is quite flat in the beginning and gently ascends to Gyable passing through the jungle. Human settlements are visible at Gyable. People living here follow the Buddhist culture.

Trek from Gyable to Ghunsa (3468m.) takes about six hours. Your trail passes through a dense green jungle. You can see Gunsa River down the trail. The trail passes through a few human settlements and it is clearly visible that their life style and culture has been inherited from Tibet.

Trek from Ghunsa to Mirgin La (4480 m.) takes about seven hours. By ascending, you pass through a jungle. Here also you can see Mani walls and prayer flags hanging over the trees. While trekking, you can also catch glimpses of the various mountains. You can spot various animals like mountain goats and yaks grazing over the green hills.

Trek from Mirgin La to Tseram (3870 m.) takes about seven hours. You trek through almost desert like areas and in some places you cross the trail is stony. The path ascends from Mirgin La to Tseram. On the path, you can see Lapsang La glacier, Mirgin La glacier and snow-capped mountains. There are very few stone roof houses at Tseram and also some yak huts.

Trek from Tseram to Oktang Base Camp (4730 m.) and back to Ramche (4580 m.) takes about 6 - 7 hours. You proceed for a relatively short day's walk today. The scenery is magnificent as you ascend past the snout of the Oktung Base Camp and into a series of ablation valleys. A frozen lake, crystal clear streams and views of Kokthan, Rathong and Kabru are the highlights of this walk. You will return to Ramche the same day. On the way, you see juniper jungle, yak herds and landslides. Ramche is occupied with few teashops and houses made of stones.

Trek from Ramche to Yamphudin (2090m.) or Tortong (2995m.). The first part of the trail goes along the bank of the river Simbua Khola. You have to walk through a dense jungle. On the way, you can see the effects of a landslide at some places. The trails normally ascend up to Lamite Bhanjyang and then descend to Yamphudin crossing a small river. Yamphudin is a mixed community of Sherpas, Limbus, Rais and Gurungs.

Trek from Yamphudin or Tortong to Khebang (1740m.). In the beginning, you descend to cross the Omje Khola up to halfway. Now you ascend through a jungle of cardamom and orchid plants. You pass a small village where you can find different human settlements, small thatched roof houses and local shops with minimal supplies. From here, the trail is ascends up to Khebang Danda and then you descend to Khebang village. Khebang is a comparatively big village where the local people follow the Hindu and Buddhism faiths.

Trek from Khebang to Thorpu (1500m.) takes approximately nine hours. The trail starts descending to Jorepul and then begins to ascend. You also trek along the flat and low land crossing paddy fields and thatched roof houses. There are many villages on the way where you can buy things you may require from the shops in these villages. Thorpu is a town where transportation facilities are available.

Drive from Thorpu to Bhadrapur takes about six hours. First of all, you ascend through the small villages up to the last destination, Gopetar. It is a town with a few small restaurants, teashops and other some local bars. From here, you get on your bus to reach Phidim and finally on to Ilam.

Fly from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu. From Kathmandu airport we will transfer you to hotel. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
As per your flight schedule, our airport representative will transfer from your hotel to the airport for your final departure.
